Database Systems

I began working with database systems in 1993. At AMS, Advanced Management Systems, I worked with a team to design ACE, a very large Sybase, client server database system. This system currently automates the entire premium audit departments for a number of major insurance companies nationwide. A great deal of attention was placed on user security, normalization and referential integrity. The database consists of hundreds of tables, views, triggers and stored procedures. I have been involved in the design and development of a number of other database systems since that time.

I designed and implemented a batch scheduling system for automated processing of large quantities of data during non-business hours. Each night this system is capable of loading policy data from the clients main frame system to automatically generate audits that must be performed, packaging and e-mailing audit and policy data to auditors in the field, receiving completed audits via e-mail from auditors in the field, and uploading completed billing information back to the clients main frame system. A number of control tables are used to assure the proper synchronization of data between ACE and Audit Win, the software used by the auditors in the field. An automated acknowledgement system positively confirms that data has been received or triggers the retransmission of data if it has not. A complex network of logging tables keeps track of all transactions so that errors can be addressed by users the next day, or even weeks after they have occurred. A number of features enable AMS to remotely debug the system, avoiding the expence of sending AMS personnel to the client site.

I have experience with Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access Databases, Sybase's CT-Lib, Microsoft's DB-Lib, Microsoft Data Access Objects, and entity/relationship data modeling using Erwin-ERX.
