Control Systems

During the entire nine years that I was employed at Digitronics Sixnet, all software development that I was involved in was related to real time controls. During that time I designed and developed the real time multitasking operating system of the 60-IOMUX real time controller. The 60-IOMUX is a product of Sixnet that is used for machine control and data acquisition. This operating system is a true pre-emptive real time multitasking operating system. It has built in support for a proprietary industrial I/O and data network as well as support for a number of daughter boards. Daughter boards provide capabilities for such things as: analog and discrete I/O, high speed counters and communications ports. The operating system was developed and enhanced over a six year period. It was developed entirely in assembly language for a Motorola 6809 microprocessor. During this time I had experience with microprocessor emulators for embedded systems, digital logic analyzers, oscilloscopes and numerous digital peripherals. I also designed several digital circuit boards.

I developed numerous custom control systems for clients of Sixnet. These systems varied from embedded systems to PC based control systems, to systems developed in SCIL for the 60-IOMUX. Applications ranged from plastic extrusion and paper unwinding controls to data aquisition and remote terminal units to automated testing software.

Most recently I have worked on a robot control system for Automated Dynamics, ADC. The robots are used for automated fiber placement. This system running under Windows NT is currently in production at Bell Helicopter where it is being used to produce parts for the V-22 Osprey helicopter. ADC, supplies a number of fiber placement heads for different applications. ADC also uses a number of different robots. The fiber placement software is highly flexible. One program is used to handle all robot and head combinations and is capable of handling most new situations without modification.
